Educational Programs
First Earth Wilderness School offers off-site demonstrations, hands-on skills programs (smaller groups only), and nature study field trips for your school or group, at your location.
Educators can customize a curriculum from the Skills and Nature study lists below, or opt for our basic presentation, a demonstration of all the stone-age survival skills (approx 1 hour.)
Stone-Age Survival Skills: Wood, bone and stone tool construction, cordage, basketry and containers, primitive weaponry and fishing gear, ancient firemaking methods, hide tanning.
Nature Study: Useful plant and wildflower indentification, tracking and trailing, bird identification, nature awareness, overview of local archaeology, basic forest ecology.
Many of these subjects can be presented either as classroom demonstrations or incorporated into a field trip. Vocabulary lists, worksheets and references can be provided upon request.
